What was a cold and windy day travelling to the coast, morale was low as was vision on the roads driving to the event. Travelling solo I succumbed to chilling out with my car radio.
I hadn’t run a half marathon all year, having started working I felt unwell and since been concentrating on the longer distance. I did however bump into a few locals. The race its self was very well organised but lots of up and down on footpaths and the coast path which involved stone sections and a 2 laps. Pretty sure that 10k Into the race I went in late 36 so the time was okay but just struggled fighting in the wind the second half and feeling tired. Maybe you could say 1 race too many and not a good positive start in the drive to get a good time from Valencia Marathon a few weeks later.
Apparently, this used to be a fast course prior to changing it from an airfield to the sea front for a longer duration. The effort was downgraded to a good standard training run, I wouldn’t let this effect my morale and moved on from the race. It was however for myself a below par 6.12 min mile race and below par with a 5th place finish in 81.34 seconds. I was sure though I could hold the pace longer and the planned pace for the marathon in a few weeks. Onwards and upwards and not be deflated when races do not go to plan.
