Coed Y Brenin Half Marathon, Wales – Saturday 18th June 2016
Oh boy it was tough, it didn’t feel any easier than the marathon, what was harder as it takes me a while to build up speed and momentum and I had 2 ladies on my shoulders for sometime. After the 3 mile mark I started to push on through the course and as the forest echo’d knew they were not far away.
Probably the toughest half marathon I have run as it’s a lot uphill, tight trails and towards the end also sprained my foot jumping badly from a rock on the course in the technical part. Despite tired legs from weeks of training and knowing I had a 100k race in Belfast the week after made the decision a week out to drop down to the half marathon. I managed to win the race in 1:38.07 in a new course record by 6 minutes. Anyone wanting a challenge this race presents that along with a great location, beautiful scenary. Now the course record holder for the marathon and the half and Alex coming second in the male race it was a good day out.
