What started out to believe as a flat fast UK race having given up a return to Frankfurth marathon where my 2 best times were turned to disappointment. the course was undualting and on poor surface and weather conditions very warm into the race and humid, despite having won the race the exhaution of running o roads i would describe “to nowehere!!!” and punchy climbs in the race i still finished first in 2.49 loosing a lot of time in the 2nd half. I think the har parts were the 500m+ grass start, climb in the first few k’s and also the roads out into North Wales. Being up the front was lonely until the point you cross the runners from the Kilomathon (16.2 miles) at around 10 + miles.
Despite having to battle I finished comfortably for the win and still felt I hadnt tired the legs after going through the line, pleased it was quicker than Edinburgh with shocking race weather conditions but slower than Manchester. Which reflecting back I have been unlucky with my weather on all the marathons and therefore going for one more stab in Valencia in November. Unfortunately with Gower 50 Miles next week I would be too tired to run a marathon in October and possibly back fire.
Away from the criticism of my race performance it was superb organisation, looked after as Elites, Alex came 2nd in the Kilomathon and we got to meet up with a few race mates like Ben Fish who also commented on the course statistics. Great Prize-giving and award ceremony and one to do if not looking for a PB.
