Coming back from Injury into running a marathon in 2014

by Sam Amend - 18th May 2014 | General News

041Its been a long ride back from recovery which started after the foot surgery on the fractured tendon May 13th 2013.  Training started back with Coach Rodger Hughes the first week of October 2013.

Since then I have got my fitness back from doing core work and classes at the local gym and starting back very slowly with one track session a week and building up the miles.  Despite running a half marathon into the first few weeks of training not very fast it didn’t put me off knowing that I could get back and running my first 10k back in December 2013 as a PB and following on 2014 with a 3,000m, 5,000m, 10,000m and equaling the 10k pb time from Barcelona in the new year at Hyde park.

My first marathon in April 2014 provided me an idea of fitness levels and finishing third in a large city marathon in 2hrs 44 mins with the view now to work towards the 2hrs 40 target for the Autumn marathon in Frankfurt in October 2014 a year on from the start of training.

With great support it is now onwards and upwards as I get stronger and strive to make the targets for my distances and to look into the future of ultra running.

In a good place with running just need to stay injury free…..
