Will Cockerell reports: Another commanding performance brings our intended promotion out of this league a step closer.  A startling line-up of 14 ‘possibles’ on Wednesday, became a still pleasing 9 at the gun, and Sam Amend, running in memory of her departed Nan on Thursday, was full of bristling intent.

Nellie was to the fore and not far behind was the exterminator, Fee Maycock, who looked in dazzling touch.  Then a couple of old faves,  Heaton and Hegvold, who did this equivalent fixture, same venue in Dec 2001, and they’re pencilled in for Dec 2021.  Starting steadily was Aussie tri star Kerri Renshaw who won her age-group at the Ironman Coeur d’alene in June and placed 19th in her group at the Hawaii World champs.   She was watched closely by another triathlete Kat Voigts, and in turn by a brace of mandarins in Maureen and yet another debutante Catriona Knox.

Throughout the long second lap, Sam hung in there well and ended a nuggety fourth.  Fee got better and better, swallowing up several victims, including Nellie who hit the wall a mile out, but hung on grimly.  Tilly and Anne were reliable as ever, and if they’d been out there much longer they’d’ve felt Kerri’s draught who was pinging along by the end.

With Kat and the civil servants all finishing in the top third of the field, our work was done and we could savour extending our lead at the top by another 90 points to 182 in all.  Consistent stuff, but three times this term we’ve been one short of a scoring team, and if that happens in the Surrey League the punishment is swift and severe.  So don’t relax ladies, Farthing Downs await on January 14th.
